What are Sub-Departments?
Sub Departments are small categories of items within Date Check Pro that are apart of larger overall departments. While you will see the list of common Sub-Departments below, two easy examples to think of are Baby Food Items in the Grocery Department, or Yogurt in the Dairy Department. Both usually require different settings for when you check those items, but are still a part of the parent department as a whole.
Common Grocery Sub-Departments Include:
Baby Food/Formula - Separated out so these items can be checked farther in advance
Short Life - Items like pizza crusts and soft taco shells that have a short shelf life and should not be checked in advance.
Pet Food - Can also be done as a separate department for reporting purposes
Common Dairy Sub-Departments Include:
Yogurt - We recommend setting up Yogurt items so they are only checked when they need to be pulled as expired. The close dated check on the yogurt department does not yield enough savings to cover the labor that goes into it.
Short Life - Items like cold tortillas or eggs that have such a short shelf life that doing the close dated check will not yield savings. However, this separate category helps keep these items apart from yogurt, which is checked the same way.
To create a sub-department, you just need to assign a department to a parent department. The screenshots below what you through how to get to a department and where to assign the parent.
Once you have selected Departments as shown above and get to the screen below, you can also hit the Add Department button to create a new department if you wish. The arrows simply walk through updating a currently existing department.
